Holiday Tree Collection

Dear Commissioners,

The Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin holiday tree collection on January 11 through February 5, 2021. Residents who normally receive DPW’s trash and recycling service are eligible to receive holiday tree collection. Holiday tree and greenery will be collected using the trash collection schedule. Residents can see trash schedules at www.dpw.dc.gov and by downloading MyDPW app to customize messages about holiday tree collection.

Each Ward will receive once a week collection for the four-week collection period. Trees and greenery will be collected from the normal point of collection on trash day.

Composting is not guaranteed for holiday trees disposed of after February 5.

Residents are asked to be patient with holiday tree and greenery collection crews:

  1. The same crews collecting leaves will also be deployed to collect holiday trees and greenery.

  2. To meet social distancing compliance, the number of employees who can work simultaneously has been reduced, which may delay the holiday tree collection schedule.

Residents can also drop their holiday trees and/or greenery at one of four locations December 28, 2020 through February 5, 2021, including:

3. Benning Road Transfer Station (3200 Benning Road NE)

4. Fort Totten Transfer Station (4900 John F. McCormack Drive NE)

5. Bryant Street Sweep Shop (201 Bryant Street NW)

6. South Capitol Street Graffiti Shop (2700 South Capitol Street SE)
