A few more updates for Tuesday Jan 7th:
DC Government Offices
Expected to be open at 10am on Tuesday Jan 7th
DCPS Update:
Due to weather conditions, DCPS schools will be closed Tues Jan 7th
DPW Update:
On Tuesday, DPW will resume trash, recycling, and food waste collection on a one-day slide schedule; however, residents may experience delays due to the amount of ice and snow in some alleys. Where possible, DPW collections teams will navigate alleys on foot to collect trash and recycling. Residents with a Monday pickup day should put their trash, recycling, and food waste out for Tuesday pickup. DPW will work throughout the week to restore normal collection operations as quickly as possible. As DPW continues to wind down snow operations, the residential drop off ramp at Fort Totten Transfer Station will remain closed. Leaf collection remains suspended.
The snow emergency will remain in effect through Tuesday, January 7. While the snow emergency is in effect, motorists may not park on snow emergency routes and vehicles parked on these routes may be towed. Find a map of the snow emergency routes at snow.dc.gov. To learn where a vehicle has been towed, call the Towed Vehicle Locator office at 202-541-6083, or go to dpw.dc.gov/page/booting-and-impoundment.
WMATA Update:
Metrobus to operate in Severe snow plan Tuesday
Working with jurisdictional partners, Metro continues to monitor winter weather conditions to adequately respond to service needs.
Metrobus expects to operate under a Severe service plan on Tuesday, Jan. 7 and will increase service as roads become passable throughout the day. Severe service will reduce the number of Metrobus routes from 193 to 42
Customers should check wmata.com/severe and all Metro social media channels to learn what plan Metrobus is operating under as conditions could change.
Metrobus operates on four different plans during inclement weather depending on the amount of snow: Light, Moderate, Severe, and Lifeline.
Metrorail expects to provide normal service on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Today, MetroAccess provided 179 life-sustaining trips to serve customers with essential travel needs. Customers with travel flexibility are encouraged to rebook nonessential trips.
Crews will be strategically placed throughout the system to respond to slippery conditions. Metro has nearly 600 pieces of equipment and teams on standby available to tackle snow and ice accumulation at stations, rail yards, parking garages, and bus facilities. Salt and snow-clearing equipment have been deployed to rail stations. Additionally, nine salt domes containing more than 300 tons of bulk salt will be in use. Metro will run trains designed to clear ice from rails and facilitate service and position staff in key locations ready to respond to buses in need of assistance, however, if conditions deteriorate, customers should prepare for Metrorail, Metrobus, & MetroAccess services to be reduced.
Metro’s Emergency Operations Command Center remains activated to facilitate rapid response to changing weather conditions.
