Metro service for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend January 15 through January 18

Summary of service for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend Saturday, January 16 through Monday, January 18:


During the weekend of Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17 Metrorail will operate from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Sunday. Metrobus will operate normal weekend service (schedules vary by route).


On Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. with trains running on Saturday service frequencies. Metrobus will operate on a Saturday schedule. Service varies by route. MetroAccess customers may make reservations to travel on the holiday; however subscription trips will be canceled. Off-peak fares will be in effect and parking will be free in all Metro-owned garages and lots.

Service will be provided to 78 of 91 stations, with trains passing through the 13 closed stations without stopping. In addition, at least two dozen Metrobus routes will be detoured around the expanded security zone. Additional detours may be possible.


Service information:


Metrorail:


* Hours: Saturday 7 a.m. -11 p.m.; Sunday 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.; and Monday 5 a.m. - 11 p.m.

* Trains will run every 12 minutes on the Red Line and every 15 minutes on all other lines during daytime and evening hours.

* Stations closed: Farragut North, Gallery Place, Judiciary Square, Union Station, Arlington Cemetery, Metro Center, Farragut West, McPherson Square, Federal Center SW, Capitol South, Smithsonian, Federal Triangle, and Archives. (See below for detailed service information by line)

* Off-peak fares will be in effect.

* Free parking at Metro-owned garages and lots.


Metrobus


* Hours: Schedules vary by route. See timetables for service information. Service on most routes ends at midnight.

* Buses will operate normal service on Saturday and Sunday.

* Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, buses will operate on a Saturday schedule. Buses that do not normally run will on Saturday, will not run on the holiday.

* As a reminder, Metro resumed front-door boarding on January 3. Regular fares are in effect.

* Customers should be aware of detours and road closures due to the Inauguration and allow additional travel time. Avoid travel downtown if possible.


MetroAccess:


* Hours: MetroAccess paratransit service for customers with disabilities will operate during the same hours as rail and bus service.

* Recurring “subscription trips” are automatically canceled on the holiday. Customers who wish to travel on Monday should make a separate reservation online (text only) or by calling 301-562-5360 (TTY 301-588-7535).

* MetroAccess passengers may encounter significant delays, and service will not be available within the security perimeter for the Inauguration.

* Customers are advised to plan additional travel time if travel is necessary.
