The District Announces Extension of 2020-21 Leaf and Holiday Tree Collection through February 19

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) has extended its 2020-21 vacuum leaf and holiday tree collections for residents who receive DPW trash and recycling services. Both collections continue through February 19.

Due to DPW’s extensive support of the presidential inauguration, our collections crews are a little behind. Extending our collection period gives us an opportunity to effectively complete this service ensuring that all leaves, holiday trees and greenery have been collected in every Ward.

Leaf collections will still occur twice in each neighborhood. Residents are reminded to rake their leaves, for collection, to the curb or into the tree box at the front of the residence. For missed leaf collections, residents can call 311 (202-737-4404) or visit 311.dc.gov to open a “Leaf Season Collection” service request. All District residents can also bring leaves to one of the following locations Monday – Saturday 8 AM – 4 PM:

  • Benning Road Transfer Station 3200 Benning Road, NE

  • Fort Totten Transfer Station 4900 Bates Road, NE

For holiday tree and greenery collection, residents are asked to place trees and greenery at the normal point of collection on trash days. For missed collections, residents can call 311 and make a “Christmas Tree Removal - Seasonal” service request. All District residents can also drop-off holiday trees and greenery at the following four locations:

Monday through Saturday, 8 AM – 4 PM:

  • Benning Road Transfer Station 3200 Benning Road, NE

  • Fort Totten Transfer Station 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE

  • Bryant Street Sweep Shop, 201 Bryant Street NW

  • South Capitol Street Graffiti Shop, 2700 South Capitol Street SE
