Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:
As part of our normal operations to maintain the water and sewer systems infrastructure throughout the District, our Water Operations team will soon be working in your area to abandon a portion of the 20-inch water main which runs along Georgia Avenue NW between Piney Branch Road and Longfellow Street, and also on Illinois Avenue NW between Longfellow and Hamilton Streets. The water main abandonment will be taking place sometime next month, but in preparation for this work, we will be conducting a test on both this main and an adjacent 24-inch main this evening beginning at 11:00pm.
The testing of the water mains should be completed within 8 hours, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
While we do not anticipate any interruptions to water services for any customers in the area, please be advised that we could encounter some unknown conditions along the mains during these testing procedures. For instance, we could discover one or more closed or broken valves on the mains that could result in one or more customers briefly going out of water, but rest assured we would work quickly to resolve this matter once identified. We wanted to ensure that you all had this information, should you receive calls from any of your constituents complaining of water service interruptions.
